West Gorordo Hotel celebrated the 2014 Earth Day Green Festival last April 26, 2014, Saturday, with the theme: Nurturing Resilient Communities. After the two disasters (the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in October and Yolanda in November) that struck the Visayas, the organizers found it most appropriate to show and share simple and doable solutions with the following major topics: healthy lifestyle, local food security, sustainable shelter, renewable energy, sustainable and egalitarian mobility, healthy mind and heart and didactic recycled arts and craft.
The event started with a “Suroy sa Bike-Friendly Cebu” bike ride led by the Psychology Volunteers on Bikes at 6am, and around 175 bikers joined the ride. Before the workshops began in the afternoon, West Gorordo’s bike racks were also formally launched. Councilor Nida Cabrera and Kamputhaw Barangay Captain Lorenzo Basamot led the ribbon cutting together with West Gorordo Hotel’s Chief Stewarding Officer, Edna Lee.
To conclude the event, the Community Tranformative Leadership awards were also given to the Edna Lee, Mishka Watin and Monica Manluluyo of the Psychology Volunteers on Bikes, Jeanne Torrefranca of Dragonfly Yoga Home Studio and Jay Garganera of Tindak Bisdak Cebu Folding Bike Society.
