The Paulina Constancia Museum of Naïve Art (MoNA) endeavors to hold an annual KABILIN FEST (Kabilin is Cebuano for heritage) on or around May 18, International Museum Day (IMD). This year marks the first IMD-Kabilin Fest. With this festival, the MoNA, in partnership with various creative practitioners in the community, gives the Cebuano public the opportunity to experience a myriad of interactive cultural heritage workshops under one roof.
Traditionally, International Museum Day is organized around May 18th. It can last a day, a weekend or a whole week, the objective being to meet at the museum with the motto:“Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples”.
Each year, IMD gathers more museums from all around the world. In 2012, 32,000 museums from 129 countries on five continents participated in the event. The International Community of Museums provides a theme to help guide the programming of the museum celebrations around the world. This year’s theme is: MUSEUMS (Memory+Creativity) = Social Change.
